Small perennial fern ; to 0 . 2 m , growing from a short and erect or spreading rhizome with rooting parts covered with blackish-brown scales , and stems covered with hairy scales . Fronds alternate , simple , coriaceous , tufted , leathery , broad , up to 20 cm long and 5cm wide , pinnately lobed with semicircular to oblong pinnae , lower side with dense , golden-brown scales , upper side dark green ; submarginally anastomosing veins . Spore sacs (sori) linear , hidden by scales .
