Small perennial fern with fan-shaped fronds ; up to 25 cm with light brown and wholly membranous or dark central stripe and light membranous margins rhizome-scales . Fronds (3-)5-30 cm long , wedge-shaped , twisted sideways , not sharply declinate when desiccated , deeply dissected into 4 to 18 linear segments ; segments ± acute and laterally toothed at the apex . Spore sacs (sori) borne at the edge of the lower frond surface , covered by the folded back margin of the leaves . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .
