Ceratopteris cornuta (P.Beauv.) Le Prieur

This species is native to Tropical Africa, W Indian Ocean, Iraq, extending to Arabian Peninsula, W India and Sri Lanka. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Ceratopteris occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Aquatic annual fern ; up to 30 cm tall , usually rooting in mud in shallow water . Stipe fleshy , with numerous longitudinal air canals , abaxially rounded and ribbed . Fronds tufted , up to 60 cm , light green , succulent , rather brittle , glabrous . Lamina of sterile fronds ovate or ovate-triangular , up to 20 x 15 cm , pinnate to bipinnate-pinnatifid ; lobes triangular or ovate , acute or obtuse ; lamina of fertile fronds ovate , up to 60 x 15 cm , (2-)3-4-pinnate , with linear lobes . Spore sacs (sori) nearly sessile , usually densely packed , globose ; spores large , trilete , ribbed with irregular long meshes . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .
