Onychium divaricatum (Poir.) alston

This species is native to NE Tropical Africa, extending to Arabian Peninsula and SW Iran. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Onychium occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial delicate fern ; up to 15 cm high with linear , entirely black rhizome-scales , and fine stipe , straw-coloured , bare along lower half or rarely with scattered scales . . Fronds tufted or deeply dissected , dimorphic ; lamina ovate , glabrous ; leaflets roughly pyramidal in shape ; lobes either shaped like narrow finger-like blades (fertile fronds) , widely spaced on fine stems , or cut almost to the base into fine fringes , spread out like the fingers of a hand (infertile fronds) . Spore sacs (sori) linear along the leaflets . (Ref . Miller & Cope ; 1996) .
