Annona muricata L.

This species is native to Central and tropical South America; introduced and cultivated world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 known species of Annona found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Evergreen , small tree ; up to 9 m tall . Stems and branches slender , down-curved . Leaves alternate , oblong to oval , dark green , glossy , glabrous . Inflorescences pedunclate , each stalk with one or two flowers . Flowers yellow ; petals ovate , thick . Fruit syncarpous , c . 30 cm long , indehiscent , dark green , ovoid-globose or cylindrical , leathery , egg-shaped , with fleshy spines ; flesh juicy , acidic , whitish , aromatic . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
