Annona squamosa L.

This species is native to Mexico, extending to Colombia; introduced and cultivated world wide. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 known species of Annona found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Shrub or small tree ; up to 3(–8) m tall , with open irregular crown . Stems much branched ; twigs become brown with light brown dots ; bark light brown . Leaves alternate , thin , simple ; leaf-blade oblong , elliptic-oblong , oblong-lanceolate or narrowly elliptic , obtuse or subacute apex , rounded or cuneate base , entire margins , petiolate . Inflorescences solitary or in short lateral clusters of 2–4 about 2 . 5 cm long . Flowers fragrant ; petal pendent , narrow , linear or oblong , greenish-yellow . Fruit syncarpous , 7 cm wide , pale green or greenish yellow , globose or conical , heart-shaped , indehiscent ; flesh white tinged yellow . Seeds dark brown . (Ref . POWO ; 2023) .
