Roystonea regia (Kunth) O.F.Cook

This species is native to Mexico, parts of Central America and the Caribbean, and southern Florida; introduced and cultivated world wide. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There is one known species of Roystonea occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

A tree ; up to 20(-30) m tall , with single , massive , gray-white trunk . Stems solitary , erect , grayish white , swollen to 75 cm at the base and toward the middle . Leaves ca . 15 , lowest leaves hanging below the horizontal ; crownshaft glossy green , smooth , topped by crown of leaf fronds , ca . 2 m long ; fronds simple , pinnately-compound (feather-like) , up tp 3m long , plumose and rather tangled appearance . Inflorescences borne on large , much-branched panicles , c . 1 m long . Flowers cream-coloured , small , unisexual ; sepals triangular ; petals elliptical-ovate , 3 . 5-6 . 4 mm long ; stamens 6-9 ; filaments awl-shaped ; anthers 2 . 4-4 . 5 mm long ; pistillode minute . Fruit round to oval , mature from green to brownish-red or dark purple , single-seeded . Seeds 5 . 5-9 . 7 mm long , ellipsoid , somewhat dorsiventrally compressed . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
