Erect , climbing or scrambling spiny shrub ; up to 4 m long , with a rhizomatous root system . Stems climbing or scrambling , many with spreading branches and branchlets , slender , glabrous to puberulous , smooth , ribbed ; spines straight or reflexed , sharp , 3-5 mm long . Cladodes green , arcuate , in fascicles of 5-25 , stiff or flexible , subulate , 5-20 x 1-1 . 5 mm . Inflorescences in fascicles of 2– 10(– 35) , axillary and terminal ; pedicels articulated below the middle , 3-8(-10) mm long ; bracts lanceolate , ± 1 . 5 mm long , falling off quickly . Flowers white , sweetly scented , c . 7–12 mm long ; perianth white to cream , ± equal , 3-4 mm , oblong ; stamens shortern than the perianth ; anthers yellow ; ovary 3-locular with 4– 8 ovules in each locule ; style 1 mm long , with 3-branched stigma . Fruit berry , 5-6 mm in diameter , orange to red , 1-seeded . Seeds black , rugose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
