Asparagus racemosus Willd.

This subspecies is native to Tropical Africa, through Arabian Peninsula, extending to N Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Asparagus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Tall woody climber or tangled shrub ; up to 5(-6) m high . Stems straight , smooth , shiny yellow to greyish , glabrous , ribbed ; spines 3-5 mm long on stems and main branches . Cladodes in fascicles of 2-6 , flexible , 8-25 mm , subulate , green , curving upwards . Inflorescences solitary , in simple racemes , in multi-budded axils of stems and branches ; pedicels articulated at or below the middle ; bracts 1 . 5 mm , ovate , concave , glabrous , membranous , sometimes falling quickly . Flowers green or white ; perianth greenish to white , 3 . 5-4 mm , oblong , obtuse ; stamens shorter than the perianth ; anthers orange to reddish ; ovary 3-locular ; style with 3-branched stigma . Fruits berry , 8-10 mm in diameter , shortly stipitate , green turning red at maturity , 1(-2)-seeded . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
