Dipcadi serotinum (L.) Medik.

This species is native to Canary Islands, extending eastwards to Arabian Peninsula, Himalaya to India. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 4 species of Dipcadi found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Bulbous perennial ; up to 25 cm high , glabrous . Bulb globose or ovoid , ± 3 cm in diameter , covered with a tunic of white scales . Leaves 2-6 , as long as the scape , linear to linear-lanceolate , erect to spreading , glabrous . Scape single , bearing 10-20 flowers in a one-sided raceme ; bracts as long as the pedicels , membranous ; pedicels to 2-5 mm . Flowers greenish brown , to 12 mm ; perianth segments equal , ± 4 mm , oblong , obtuse ; stamens included ; ovary stipitate ; style single . Fruit capsule , ± 10 mm , loculicidal , trigonous . Seeds 4 . 5-5 mm , brownish black , shining , rotund , compressed , narrowly winged . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .

In the Eastern Hajar Mountains, the lower bulb is eaten raw with salt. The upper leaves grazed by livestock. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).
