Leaves distichous ; leaf sheaths usually auriculate at the apex , puberulous ; leaf blade 5–15 × (0 . 6–)1–3 . 7 cm , usually sessile , linear-lanceolate to lanceolate-elliptic , apex acuminate , base oblique , surfaces pubescent to subglabrous . Inflorescences spathes clustered , not or somewhat falcate , glabrous to hirsute-puberulous . Flowers blue , bisexual and male ; sepals keeled ; petals blue . Fruit capsule , 4–5 mm long , dorsal cell warty and indehiscent , ventral cells smooth , dehiscent , 3-seeded .
