Syringodium isoetifolium (Asch.) Dandy

This species is native to Egypt, extending to Mozambique and W Pacific. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Syringodium occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Rhizomatous , submerged , marine perennial herb , with 1-3 little-branched or unbranched roots at each node , rooting in sand ; rhizome slender . Stems distichous , short , erect . Leaves 2-3 at each node , 50-300 × 1-2 mm , margins entire ; leaf sheath 10-40 mm , often tinged reddish , cylindric to obconic , persisting longer than the leaf blade . Inflorescences solitary , terminal , enclosed in a leaf similar to the others . Flowers small ; male flower: consisting of 2 ovate anthers ; female flower: consisting of 2 elongate carpels . Fruit 3-4 mm , obliquely ellipsoid , hard , compressed , rounded base , with a short apical beak . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
