Bolboschoenus maritimus (L.) Palla

This species is native to Temperate & Subtropical regions; introduced elsewhere. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There is one species of Bolboschoenus occurs in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 40-100(-120) cm tall with swollen stem bases and stiff spreading rhizomes . Stems triangular , glabrous to scabrous , covered in the lower half by green leaf sheaths , grey-green . Leaves as long as the stem or longer ; leaf sheath up to 10 cm ; blade up to 25 cm , long and flat , margins entire , the upper overtopping the stem , grey-green . Inflorescences umbellate , compound , open , with terminal cluster of several sessile spikelets and with small heads of 1–4 sessile spikelets ; involucre lowest bract longer than the inflorescence ; glumes 4-6 mm , hairy , margins scarious , apex unevenly trifid , scarious with mucro to 1 . 5 mm , ± straight . Flowers bisexual ; perianth of 4-6 bristles , persistent ; stigmas 3 . Fruit nut , obovoid , trigonous , finely reticulate , pale brown turning dark brown , glossy . (Ref .
