Cyperus amauropus Steud.

This species is native to Eritrea, extending to S Tropical Africa and Arabian Peninsula. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 24 species of Cyperus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Fairly robust , succulent small tufted perennial herb ; up to 15 cm tall with a slightly swollen stem bases and a short rhizome . Stems (culms) tufted , rigonous , glabrous . Leaves many at the base , up to 40 cm long , greyish to yellowish green , shorter than culms ; leaf sheath uncoloured or brownish ; leaf blade linear , often inrolled or folded , apex acute , margin scabrid , glabrous . Inflorescences of digitate spikelets , loosely crowded , lanceolate-linear ; spikelets in loose clusters , sessile ; rachilla straight ; glumes pale grey-green , broadly elliptic or ovate-oblong , apex acute , keel green to reddish-brown . Fruit nutlet , brown , obovoid to ellipsoid , trigonous , densely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
