Perennial herb ; up to 10-15 cm long with basal bulbs covered by brown to blackish scales and with very slender stolons . Stems (culms) trigonous , arising from the bulb , smooth . Leaves 5–25 × 2–6 mm , many , longer than the culms ; leaf sheath to 5 cm , greyish brown to green , forming a basal part of the culm ; leaf blade 2-3 mm wide , linear , slightly scabrid on the margins , acuminate . Inflorescences a simple anthela , consisting of 5–20 spreading spikelets ; spikelets 5–10-flowered , in loose clusters on elongated axis , reddish brown to yellowish green , linear-lanceolate ; glumes dark reddish brown to almost blackish , ovate-lanceolate , apex acute , slightly excurrent . Fruit nutlet , 1 . 1–1 . 9 × 0 . 6–0 . 8 mm , oblong-ellipsoid , brown , papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
