Stems (culms) few , triangular , green , smooth . Leaves glossy green ; leaf sheath green-reddish brown ; leaf blade 10-40 × 0 . 2-0 . 8 cm , linear , slightly M-shaped in cross-section , scabrid on margins and major veins , attenuate . Inflorescences a simple to compound anthela , consisting of 1(–many) sessile and 1–8 stalked spikes ; spikelets in dense clusters , 3-15 per cluster , yellow-brown to dark brown , linear-lanceolate , slightly flattened , 8–35 flowers . Fruits nutlet , 1 . 5–1 . 8 × 0 . 7–1 mm , dark brown , obovoid , triangular , minutely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
