Cyperus rubicundus Vahl

This species is native to Africa, extendin to Middle East, Asia and Australia. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 24 species of Cyperus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Tussocky annual ; up to 30 cm long with a small root system , the whole plant reddish-brown . Stems (culms) tufted , slender , triangular , slightly scabrid below the inflorescence , sometimes woody at the very base . Leaves folded , thin , as long as or shorter than the culms ; leaf sheath greyish brown , frequently not enclosing the base all around ; leaf blade 1-2 mm wide , linear , flat , often curving at apex , apex acute to acuminate , scabrid on margins and primary veins . Inflorescences capitate , simple anthela with sessile spikelets ; spikelets in digitate clusters , 3–17(–30) per inflorescence , squarrose , lanceolate ; glumes reddish brown , ovate , acute to mucronate and recurved , scabrid . Fruit nutlet , 0 . 9–1 . 1 × 0 . 6-0 . 75 mm , greyish-brown , obovoid , sharply triangular , margins concave , minutely papillose . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
