Tufted annual or short-lived perennial , up to 50 cm tall with a slender rootstock , glabrous . Stems tufted , 4-5-angled , bearing 0-3 bladeless sheaths . Leaves up to as long as the stems ; leaf blade flat with prominent midrib . Inflorescence lax , open , paniculate ; spikelets sessile , solitary , ovoid , 2-5 × 1 . 2-1 . 5 mm , apex acute to subobtuse ; glumes golden brown or brown , shortly mucronate . Fruits nutlet , white or pale yellowish brown , obovoid , obscurely 3-angled , verruculose with transverse ridges , papillate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
