Miller & Morris (1988) wrote that: "The corm of this plant provided one of the most important wild food sources in Dhofar. A special digging tool was used to collect the corms. Called [J: zik], it consisted of a short wooden handle with a pointed metal head fixed to one end made by the blacksmiths of the coastal settlements. Young girls setting out for the day's herding of the younger stock would not take any food with them, just a water skin, the digging tool and a bag of [J: keref], the litter of the animal pens, the mixture of urine, dung and earth in which these corms were cooked. As they went along they would look out for the plants and dig up and collect the corms, and then at midday, when they and their herds stopped to rest in the shade from the heat of the midday sun,

they would prepare and cook them. These corms are still widely eaten and appreciated, and remain a welcome gift for a friend in town. The red-legged partridge [J: eysit: eykeb] is also fond of these corms, and the marks of its digging beak can often be seen around a clump of the dried foliage". (Ref. Plants of Dhofar). Ghazanfar (2018) mentioned that: "The corms are gathered in the drier season, cooked and eaten as a well-liked food in Dhofar". (Ref. Flora of Oman; vol.4).
