Juncus socotranus (Buchenau) Snogerup

This species is native to Socotra, Arabia to Iran. (Ref. https://en.wikipedia.org). There are 3 species of Juncus found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; up to 2 m high , densely caespitose , with a short rhizome . Stems and shoots intravaginal . Leaves with basal leaves up to 10 , 25-110 x 0 . 2-0 . 4 cm ; leaf sheaths broad , forming a thick cover around the base , basally brown . Inflorescences ± lax , often storied , each with 2-4 (-6)-flowers , bracteate . Flowers perianth 6 , 2-3 mm , equal or with the inner ones slightly longer ; margins scarious ; outer perianth mucronate , the inner obtuse , cucullate , margins silvery hyaline , not or slightly notched ; bracts and perianth conspicuously red punctulate-striulate ; stamens 6 . Fruit capsule , dark brown , trilocular , exceeding the perianth , ovoid , abruptly attenuating above to forming a mucro . Seeds many , striate . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
