Inflorescence linear , with short , oblong , densely crowded racemes , varying to elliptic-oblong or pyramidal with longer racemes up to 3 cm apart ; racemes stiff , ascending at first , eventually reflexing and finally deciduous . Spikelets 1- to 3-flowered ; glumes coriaceous , asymmetric , overlapping abaxially and obscuring the florets ; lemmas narrowly ovate , appressed-pubescent along the lateral veins and on the back below .
