Annual herb ; up to 40-90 cm long , caespitose . Stems (culms) erect , 3-5-noded . Leaves 10-45 cm long , 6-15 mm wide , scabrous , apex acute . Inflorescences composed of racemes , 6-12 cm long (excluding the awns) , oblong-linear , dense ; rhachis tough ; spikelets comprising 1 fertile florets ; without rhachilla extension ; glumes 10-30 mm , collateral , shorter than spikelet , gaping ; lemma of fertile spikelet ovate-lanceolate , rounded on the back ; lemmas of lateral spikelets smaller , obtuse , awnless . Fruits caryopsis with adherent pericarp ; sulcate on hilar side ; hairy at the apex . (Ref . Flora of Oman ; vol . 4) .
