Poa bulbosa L.

This species is native to Eurasia and North Africa, but it is present practically worldwide as an introduced species. (Ref. POWO; 2023). There are 2 known species of Poa found in Oman. (Ref. Oman Botanic Garden).

Perennial herb ; densely caespitose . Stems (culms) erect or geniculately ascending ; 5-40 cm long , smooth , hollow , unbranched , hairless , multiple from the base forming clumps . Leaves mostly basal or on the lower stem , hairless , folded or flat , and boat-shaped at the tip ; sheaths hairless , the edges fused together (closed) on the lower fourth ; ligule 2 to 4mm long , blunt to pointed at the tip and not fringed with hairs . Inflorescences a panicle , 3--10 cm , ovate to lanceolate ; branches generally ascending , smooth . Spikelets comprising 3-6 fertile florets ; with diminished florets at the apex . Glumes persistent ; similar ; shorter than spikelet . Flowers lodicules 2 ; membranous . Fruits caryopsis with adherent pericarp . (Ref . POWO ; 2022) .
